Reflective Journal: Understanding X (Formerly Twitter) in Today’s Digital World

UNDERSTANDING X (FORMERLY TWITTER) IN TODAY’S DIGITAL WORLD

Learning about X (formerly Twitter) helped me understand how powerful this platform is for communication, business, and branding. Even though posts on X are short, the impact can be huge. This journal reflects the history, how it works, tips and tricks from the videos, how people make money on X, and why it is useful for business.

A Brief History of X

Originally launched in 2006 as Twitter, the platform was created for short posts called tweets, limited to 140 characters. Over time, it became a place for news, jokes, opinions, and real-time updates. In 2022, Elon Musk bought Twitter and in 2023, renamed it X. Tweets became “posts,” but the main idea stayed the same: fast, short messages that spread worldwide in seconds. Today, X is still one of the biggest microblogging sites.

How to Use X

Using X is simple. You create an account, follow people, and post short messages, photos, or videos. You can reply to others, repost content, or send private messages. X is great for sharing quick updates—like what’s happening now. Many people use X to stay informed about the news, sports, entertainment, and local events as they happen in real time. Please see attach video:

Tips and Tricks I Learned

From the videos, I learned several helpful tips:

  • Post at the right time so more people see your content.
  • Use hashtags so your post appears in searches.
  • Keep posts short, clear, and interesting.
  • Reply to followers—this builds trust.
  • Use visuals like pictures and short videos to get more attention.

One video also explained how X recommends content. The more engagement (likes, comments, reposts) you get, the more your posts will be pushed to other users. Take five (5) minutes and intrigue yourself with Tips and Tricks and become a pro😉😉.

X Monetization (How People Make Money)

I learned that X now allows users to earn money, once they meet certain requirements. Some ways include:

  • Ad revenue sharing (X pays you a percentage of the ads shown under your posts)
  • Paid subscriptions (followers pay monthly for exclusive posts or content)
  • Brand partnerships (companies pay you to promote their products)
  • Selling merchandise
  • Using X to bring people to your website or online store

If you post helpful, funny, or viral content, you can grow fast and earn from your audience.

Why Use X for Business

X is perfect for businesses because it helps them:

  • Promote products
  • Connect with customers
  • Answer questions quickly
  • Build a strong brand identity
  • Share updates, sales, and events
  • Gather feedback

Companies like Dell, Zappos, and TurboTax use X to reach customers and provide fast support. For businesses in Trinidad and Tobago, X can also help reach regional and international audiences.

This learning experience showed me that X is more than just a social media platform. It is a powerful tool for communication, branding, marketing, customer service, and even income generation. With the right strategies, consistent posting, knowing your audience, and creating quality content, anyone can use X to build a strong online presence.
